Glenn Springs Lake Reviews
Glenn Springs is a pretty good fishery managed by the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA). It is located just 12 miles northeast of Millington, Tennessee, on Glenn Springs Road.
Glenn Springs Lake has all the amenities that you look for when you are looking for a home lake. They have a fully stocked tackle shop that also sells live bait. They also sell state fishing licenses.
If you don't have a boat they do have boats available to rent, including pontoons for taking the whole family. The lake also has a picnic area with barbecue pits so you can make a day of it.
They do have snacks and drinks available in the tackle shop but I would recommend you bring your own since there is not a large selection. Hey, they are in the fishing business not the food business.
The main problem with this lake is the lack of space for shore fishing. There are two piers available which can get pretty crowded, so I highly recommend coming with a boat or renting one for the day.
Now for the important stuff, the fishing. This lake is just filled with grass and dead trees which makes it exceptional for bass fishing. Now I'm not a professional angler but I have had tremendous luck in this lake catching 2 to 4 pounders. They may not be the lunkers you would like to catch, but I can promise you the big ones are there, too. I've seen many a fellow angler pulling them in.
I've had most of my luck fishing soft plastics in this lake:
- worms
- grubs
- soft jerk baits
Even though these are what I've had the most luck with, I've also caught quite a few on jigs and crank baits. From talking to fellow fisherman at this lake,
some swear on nothing but a black jig with either a pork trailer or an identical black plastic trailer.
The other popular bait I have come across that these fisherman have had success with is the crank bait. With all of the dead logs and timber in the water they just bounce it off the logs and bang, the bass hit it.
In addition to bass, there is a lot of Crappie and Bream fishing going on at Glenn Springs. I've never done either at this lake but considering how busy this place is in the early spring it must be pretty good.
I can also tell you that if you like catfishing they have some real nice size ones in here. The very first time I went to this lake there was a young man weighing an 11 pounder at the tackle shop when I walked up.
Since this is a relatively clear lake, especially in Spring and into the Summer months you will sometimes see some nice ones sunning themselves in the shallows.
I recommend this lake if you are in the area. If you get in on the right day you can catch a whole lot of bass.
Fish On.
